Yvonne de Carlo plays a young woman called Anna in Robert Siodmak´s film noir ‘Criss Cross’ from 1949.
She is manipulative, selfish to the bone, money-grubbing and a first-class liar. De Carlo´s great performance secures an eternal place among ‘The Femme Fatale Hall of Dames.’
Nobody is able to tame her. With only one exception. A fired gun, which leads to a terrifying ending …

Yvonne De Carlo in Criss Cross delivers a great performance and puts her at the top of the list of the femmes fatales of the silver screen. of the forties. Not as beautifully distant as Ava in the Killers or enchantingly ambiguous as Rita in Gilda, Yvonne stands her own, with the determination and will of a beautiful working girl who lingers to make it big in life, even if she has to lie and double cross to achieve her goal, or worse, even marrying Dundee (a great Dureya).
Her specch as she tries to explain Steve why she has to leave him at the end is the quintessential motivation of any Femme fatale.
The rumba she dances with a young Curtis as Steve spots her in the club lingers in the memory of any movie buff and shines sensually for posterity.
A nice summary of her role. Thanks! 🙂
